2 entries✅1. I rotated here and honestly this was my favorite away – great culture, very nice PD/APD and faculty, and great vibes with the residents who were inviting and very happy overall. Well-rounded training with good mix of subspecialty clinics (rheum derm, cutaneous onc, peds, etc.), and this was echoed by the residents. They do very well in the fellowship match with the last 3 Mohs matches being at Harvard, UCSD, and UCLA. Dermpath was a weakness but I heard they were revamping and just got a heavy hitting new dermpath faculty there + other new faculty. Amazing location being in Boston, and also you get close interaction with the other Boston programs which is nice. I was initially concerned about the accreditation warning people were talking about, but it looks like in the newest ACGME data from 2026 they're fully accredited.

thoughts on BU away?> Boston is very expensive, hard to find housing since their blocks aren't month to month; popular program so they don't interview all rotators, nice faculty and residents, but hard to get to know anyone personally since they have so many rotators and research fellows

Similar to person below, I matched into my back-up of pediatrics. Does anyone know people who have done peds then derm residency? Do I need to do a prelim year again though? I personally know several people who have done this recently as well! And I believe they didn't do another prelim year < yay, thank u!! did they complete the entire peds residency or just partial?

i know someone who did one year of peds and then switched to a derm physician only spot so was able to start derm directly after a peds intern year! so if you want to switch earlier could be worth looking into! < omg that's awesome, was she in a peds prelim position or categorical? i hope my program is supportive

Tufts or HF? In terms of prestige < In terms of perceived prestige by name only, I'd go with Tufts. Having Harvard and BU Derm close by in Boston helps if you're considering fellowship as they feed off each other in terms of taking people they know.

What program is at the bottom of your list? < Case Western is dead last #14 for me < Cook County is my last <UAMS < BU < UTHSC lol < Einstein < Harbor UCLA < Iowa < Colorado < UNM but lol i have a lot of these programs on my program list 🤡 < what is UTHSC (Tennessee) ?

Any BU kids wanna comment on the culture? < pros: workload is manageable, everyone is outwardly chill. cons: lots of passive aggressiveness, heard attendings trash residents for petty reasons. < The BU faculty can be somewhat petty and a little needy (like many Dermatology attendings who believe you should wait on them hand and foot, so nothing new)>

Just confirming that BMC has gotten rid of the rule requiring you to stay on as junior faculty after residency. can any home students and/or away rotators confirm? < it is strongly encouraged that all residents do it. but not REQUIRED per say. need for good rec letters. < they strongly encourage residents to stay on as junior faculty? wtf << OP here: I asked the program coordinator and that requirement ended 2 years ago < I understand that it's no longer required, but is it still "strongly encouraged" to stay on BUMC's Derm faculty for x number of years? <yes
