Is it safe to assume that if we haven’t received an invite to the Utah phone interview, we have been rejected?

Utah invite for away rotator today - no phone call interview, personalized email. They are interviewing their internal candidates and away rotators on February 1.
Does anyone know if any more spots will become available for Utah?? I received a call but never an invite and I would love to go there! Anyone shedding spots anytime soon lol?
Official Utah Rejection
Is Utah 2 diff IV dates or a 2 day IV?
did everyone who interviewed at Utah get an email today from the medicine dept about prelim year?
Utah phone call to screen for an actual interview? seems excessive
Do any applicants from previous years know what topics are discussed during this phone call? Apparently we don't need to prepare for it...
Are people just replying through ERAS (there was no email provided)?
that’s what I did
Did anyone who applied to Utah NOT get the email to schedule a phone call?
Yes. I applied, have close ties, and did not get an email.
Is anyone else in the same situation...where they are really expecting an interview from Utah and did NOT receive an email?
Same here, I applied to Utah but did not receive any message anywhere about a request to talk on the phone
University of Utah phone call?
This was expected as we had to schedule them weeks ago...
that call was awful. i sounded like a gibbering idiot. I was incredibly nervous and prelim interviews have been very chill so wasn't prepared for on the spot questions. no way i am getting an actual invite.
I know, I should have been more clear. Mine is scheduled for later today. I was curious if others have had theirs yet?
um don't want to say what Qs were cause dont want to get in trouble. it wasn't bad. im just someone that gets incredibly nervous and has a shaky voice etc. thats what made it bad. i just sounded like shit.
How long was the phone call?
I really don't think anyone would care if you said what 1 or 2 questions were. I don't even have a call myself, just curious why it seems to have been so stressful.
5-10 minutes, mostly selling you on the program and seeing if you're actually interested in them. I think it was stressful (for me, not OP) because it's harder to read someone over the phone vs. in-person where it's easier to tell if someone likes what you're saying.
idk i didnt have a chance to express interest in the program because i was so flustered. i didnt get the sense that was what they wanted. sounded like they just wanted to see if they liked me
What kinds of stuff did Utah ask you? (just curious, didn't get a call myself) x3
Utah OFFICIAL invite via email. Phone call earlier today!
Congrats!
For those who got a Utah Phone call today, did you all get either an invite, waitlist, or rejection?
Got a call today, was not emailed after :( |I got phone call. No invite. Yet.
What time did you hear back from Utah (MST)?
I was hoping for Utah, can someone explain the deal with the phone call/invites? I feel pretty out of the loop. If we are not a part of this, we shouldnt expect an invite at this point, right?
Yes
yeah. come on. get real. you've been out of the running for quite some time now.
I emailed Utah a LOI and they said they are still working on sending out invites, so maybe not out of running yet?
if you didn't get a phone call by this point, you can assume it's a silent rejection.
They asked me actual tough questions, which I was totally not expecting.
Got a call on Monday, no kidding, it was like a phone call from hell
Any idea what to expect for Utah phone call? Do they ask tough Qs or just trying to gauge if you want to be in salt lake?
Why dont you just wait til your phone call?
see ! I'm not the only person who thought it was super tough. it was definitely an awful call. like i wasn't expecting it to be like that which was half the problem.
My questions were "Why dermatology" and an ethical scenario
It was a mini-interview, with the same sort of questions one should expect from any other dermatology interview.
those questions aren't bad. mine were worse left field. screw mmi. i prefer conversational interviews.
I also had the why dermatology and ethics questions
They pimped on the the history of Utah. WTF
Hey. Can you guys share the number that Utah used to call you? Thanks!
how important do you guys think ck is? scheduled to take it in a few days and my practice tests scores have gone progressively down from 250+ last week. should i delay or just take it? taken the nbmes/ UWSA
From what I have been told research shows that delaying the test only reduces your score. No one is going to change you on the rank list if you have 245 vs 255 on Step 2. They are going to go off if they liked you in the interview.
I would delay it. I have mine scheduled for December but I will be postponing until after ranking. Only select derm programs care for it (UCSF, Cleveland, Stony Brook), so if you are not interviewing there, it won't matter. Also, I have cleared it with multiple TYs/prelims that no score by ranking is totally fine.
hmm not sure about this. Many program websites say Step 2 is required for rank
ive explicitly been told ck scores MUST be in before rank list by multiple people. you may want to check that. i am interviewing at stony brook actually :/ really hope they don't care tons.
What multiple people or what websites have you heard from/read that say Step 2 is required for rank? I personally checked 70+ program websites and only saw UCSF and Cleveland (did not apply to Stony Book). I have also asked multiple derm PDs/PCs if they require Step 2 for rank and they say no, and same with my top 4 TYs. I personally think your time is better spent banging out an extra 3-4 papers in the month you would otherwise spend studying.
"Bang out 3-4 papers in the month you would've spent studying"... yeah because that's how research works x3
I never said research; I am talking about reviews, case reports, and letters. These can supplement real research projects that you probably already have ongoing.
Anyone know if Utah requires CK to rank?
Can people who got Utah interview help by filling in the interviews tab please?
I wonder if Utah sent out all their invites. Did all the internal applicants from Utah get invites? Can any of the Utah internal applicants weigh in?
Did anyone who had a phone call today (Tues) get an invite?
no invite here x3
geez. someone here is really obsessed with Utah
External non-rotator here. Got an invite yesterday (11/27) via non-ERAS email x2
WHAT DAYS ARE THEY INTERVIEWING?
Anyone get an invite without a phone call?
Utah internal here. They do their first-round screening based on all the applications. Then they use the phone calls as a second-round screen and email out invitations for interviews
To clarify, last year, they emailed out supplemental essays for the first-round screen but decided to go with preliminary phone interviews this year
Does anyone know if it would be cool to call Utah ourselves? Anyone willing to share their number?
Wha? Why would you do that?
There's no way that turns out well. Also I'm probably paranoid but this reeks of a sting operation
Can you explain what you mean? I have family that lives in Utah and I already sent them an LOI but haven't received an invite yet. The worst that could happen is that they don't give me an interview, right?
No, the worst that could happen is that they get annoyed with you and tell other programs about you. PDs talk to each other all the time, and they talk about specific applicants. You've already sent them an LOI explaining everything, they know you really want to go there. You either get an interview or you don't. Chill out, there's nothing you can do at this point
Some posts are shown because their comments mention this program.
whaaaa? How could they really glean anything from a phone call? Pick up every call with the best most polite kind and empathetic voice ever |They are probably looking to see if you post about them on this spreadsheet.
