seems like some programs treat their away rotators poorly and ignore them- is that because they are elitist and dont care? seems like people really didnt like harvard and ucla < literally that is UCSD horrible experience < what happened at UCSD

trying to find housing for a boston away is making me pull my hair out, especially since I have to take transit into consideration. True that it's a bad decision to bring a car? and are there areas to avoid/best areas for a rotation at one of the harvard-affiliated hospitals taking into account bus/train routes?

anyone know how harvard's away process goes? received a visiting clerkship scholarship from them (attached to their medical school, not their derm department) but I had withdrawn already and so I just reinstated but now I'm worried that I would have no shot since it's somewhat late (in consideration for october and november dates)

Looking at the match list, it appears that top tier schools matched really well. I wonder if there were students at stanford, UCSF, harvard etc that didn't match this cycle. just curious if that is a big "IT" factor (where you go to med school)

This should go without saying but if you notice that a program has mainly, if not all, DO Derm residents, don't waste your money as an allopathic MD student in ERAS fees for those programs. The merger doesn't mean anything in terms of equal consideration of your application.
Does this 50/50 lecture & clinic based derm elective count as rotating through your home derm program, or no?

technically you do rotate but half the rotation is didactics and assignments, after July we're able to sign up for our formal home rotations though < I would just prepare well in advance for your away rotation for July and then do your home program rotation the next month.

Is it worth it to complete an intern year at a prestigious program if you matched derm?

i do not want my panel to be full of patients who are screening for their derms intern year program by prestige. the mgh trained people can have fun with those patients :). id rather have the less neurotic ones. there is no shortage of derm patients

Depends. I wouldn't recommend going to an HCA prelim program where you're smarter than all your Carribean seniors either.

Any recommendation for programs that take Research fellows as future candidates? << Are you referring to med student fellowships or MD clinical research fellowships?
Both :) >> Hard to say. There are medical students who even do Harvard Derm research fellowships who don't match (although I notice they have matched during intern year). In terms of MD clinical research fellowships (so for those who went unmatched in MS-4 and completed an internship + USMLE Step 3), your best bet is looking at the track record of previous clinical MD research fellows for that faculty member matching into Dermatology. >Thank you!!!!!

Do people without a RY or additional degree (PhD, MPH, whatever) have any chance at the top programs anymore? Harvard, Penn, and UCSF all didn't take a single person who didnt... < theres no chance honestly with the amount of people doing RY year, it almost hurts you if you dont.

as a recently matched DO resident, I can say this is largely true. Most DO programs won't take MD candidates. Maybe this will change in the future, but not true now. May also not be true if you have a strong tie to the program. Also, many DO programs are now run by MD PDs and May start taking more MDs, such as Honor Health, LVHN, St. Joe's, etc. For a list of these "DO" programs, see this spreadsheet: Formerly AOA Dermatology Residencies: Audition Rotation Guide
