so is the worst community derm program better than MGH IM? I feel like ive heard of now at least 6 people the last few years who matched MGH IM but not derm < it's a workhorse program <but MGH literally stands for Man's Greatest Hospital. is Larkin derm really better than MGH?

So many strong applicants went unmatched this cycle. it's scary. << Contrary to what academic derm faculty in APD and #DermTwitter say, I do think that doing a derm research year during medical school is just going to become a more common hoop to jump through. I don't think those academic Derm faculty speak for the entire specialty as a whole. It's not a guarantee, but the correlation (both in terms of matching and the caliber of the derm program matched into ) seems to be clear with this year's match list. < So RYs are more about connections than pubs? I agree. A RY wont guarantee a match. there were ppl who completed RYs at Harvard and still went unmatched. << No, that's not at all what I said nor implied. Nice try though.

The reality of the situation is that you can have an average derm app from a top 5 and match, and then have a stellar application from a lower tier school and struggle to match. Sucks )<*slightly below average derm app i think could still cut it from harvard < yup. My Harvard friend said I had a 10x app than he did, and he ended up at a top program. I did not, at all.

The fact that over 10% of the Yale class did derm is so fucked up. None of us can compete or have a chance against that many individuals from a top program < How many Yale med students matched Derm this year? < 12 < I think there was one application cycle quite a few years back in which 15 Harvard med students matched into Derm. Top schools tend to have more than your average number applying for Derm. < not fair ugh < That doesn't necessarily mean that they will all match. Serious question- why do people care so much about interviews from Harvard, Stanford and UCSF? I guess I understand big names like Harvard and Stanford. But what is the fuss about UCSF? Is the clinical training actually better?
