no one understands the process. x3. Just because Mayo is considered "prestigious" doesn't mean it also isn't located in Rochester, MN. x2 "Ranking" doesn't always equate with competitiveness.
Even though Mayo Rochester's location may be less than ideal, they still invite and match stellar candidates, I wouldn't devalue this person's invite. <-- I don't mean to devalue, but I also think people "overvalue" invites from certain programs.
<you got this just now?< maybe like an hour or so ago via ERAS <<< No Rochester Rejection Tally: X2
Have they sent out invites yet?
no <<< No rejection yet....so you're sayin' there's a chance?
doesn't sound like a ton of applicants were rejected or it wouldve been posted earlier
<< that is so weird that they sent out late night rejections and not having sent out invites
Does that mean invites are likely soon? << maybe, but last year they sent out invites 12/7
I'm waiting for the Mayo Rochester trickle post-Thanksgiving because (1) lots of people won't be able to make it during the days with lot of overlap and (2) the applicants are required to submit their interview dates by today
ehh year after year they recruit 3 off the waitlist. Trust the process haha! No biggie just venting
Other interesting facts: accoriding to program information, UTSW interviewed 65 for 9-11 spots, Mayo Rochester interviewed 55 for 8 spots...
<Northwestern may have been really high last year b/c they had A TON (I think 12?) of internal applicants (not including rotators - though rotators don't all get intervews).
I'm also surprised that their step i is slig lu below average for the general population of derm applicants.
look at other programs on there. They all have crazy low step scores reported. No way is the average for NW less than 250. I think programs lie.
<- as a reference, there were about 24-26 interviewees at the nu internal day (home students, away rotators, re applicants, and research fellows)
No, they attached a sheet with hotel rates too
Which Derm programs offer free hotel? Henry Ford, Mayo-Rochester, Mayo-AZ... others? Penn State, I'm there this week.
Nice
Geisinger pays fo hotel as well
Mayo-Jacksonville too
Southern Illinois university as well
Congrats! x3
thoughts on this program?
interviewed here last year and loved it! Great program in a great location, the biggest drawback is that it's a small ;dept and only 2 res per year
awesome thank you! how does this Mayo Clinic site compare to the Rochester one in terms of resources, research, pathology and future job prospects (academic and private)
didn’t interview at Rochester but it’s for sure not as much of a powerhouse. They do have good faculty and research, lots of support for research and access to Mayo patient databases in the entire Mayo system including Rochester; lots of admin support for research as well, like someone can write and submit your IRB stuff etc. as far as I remember
That's awesome! Are you guys internal or rotators by chance?<<nope, external no ties x3 << mayo-AZ doesn't have internals...
LOL I'm an idiot << Well, they do, but not for this cycle. I think their med school opened last year.
Yo anyone made contact about the hotel reservation?
I've heard that you get your own secretary at Mayo and very little scut. Don't know if true
Rochester MN is about 10-15F colder than Ann Arbor
Have also heard the rumor that Mayo gives more support staff. Rochester is more boring and colder than Ann Arbor with the qualifier that both are cold. Ann Arbor has stuff around it but Rochester is really isolated.
did U of Rochester send out interviews or only rejections?
question about the mayo rochester supplement from last month - were we supposed to receive a confirmation of receipt?
I feel like this has already been asked before so sorry if this a repeat Q but did U of Rochester send out interview invitations or just rejections?
Can someone with a Mayo Rochester invite take a look to see if any of the IV dates are still unfilled? Seems like there's still a good number of us waiting to hear back.
Finally got that Mayo-Rochester rejection today. Yay
U Rochester out, external, no ties, ERAS
For anyone who has interviewed at Mayo, did you guys fly straight into Rochester or take the shuttle from minneapolis? It's actually cheaper for me to go straight to Rochester but I've heard thair airport is really unreliable
Some posts are shown because their comments mention this program.
ha i dont think so, give an example? Example = Mayo Rochester. << this is the best circular logic i've seen in this spreadsheet lmfao <<snowflake wanted mayo interview obvs. <<< Yeah I'm sure they get near top rankings by sifting thru a thin stack compared to Sunny Place St. University. SMH
