anyone know if utsw is dropping interview invites tomorrow? their first interview date is in november
I don't understand the tier list. So does the tier list mean that UTSW/Mayo are more competitive than Columbia/Hopkins and harder to match to? People would rank UTSW/Mayo that high?
Thoughts on UT Austin Dell med away vs UT Houston McGovern away? < Do Dell, program is better than McGovern < but does it have less spots and less likely to take outsiders / out of staters? < have you check ut houston match list yet? < I mean most programs in Texas will take their own besides UTSW basically. McGovern is all Texans besides one girl from UNC who did a research year at UTSW and then did an away at UT Houston < a student who rotated at McGovern said it was more because this person had a connection to a McGovern resident who had been a med student at UNC
Took the Texas Star survey today, the service is awful. I think there is a huge sampling bias. took literally an hour just to put in 30 programs. Super repetitive. I also got a look at the response rates, looks like at most programs its less than 30%. highest was at UTSW at 50. Take the data from texas star with a grain of salt.
Is UTSW a malignant program?
What are the top 10 derm programs? Is there a clear consensus on this?
It matters for people who want to go into academics/do research... << LOL, no it doesn't. Academia is in need of dermatologists. Beggars can't be choosers.
Those who rotated at Uab, why do you think they didn't interview a lot of away rotators? Spill the tea. << Well for starters, UAB is a really strong Dermatology program. They don't need to interview all rotators. Good candidates come to them in the application process. << this sounds like something written by an attending or resident < what makes Uab strong? why would you want to be a derm faculty there vs at Northwestern or UMich or UTSW or UMiami or UPenn or Yale even << You're shifting the goalposts and asking a different question w/regards to the caliber of Dermatology residency programs (how you choose residency programs when it comes to training you vs. how you choose residency programs where you want to go to be an academic faculty member are totally different questions). And to the person who wrote directly after me above, yes, I'm actually a PGY-4 Derm resident, but I wanted to give some perspective as someone now on the other side of the match process. It's somewhat hard to understand for Derm applicants while you'going through it, to see and evaluate derm programs in a methodical way until they get to the other side, where it makes a lot more sense. I'll admit that it's not ideal, when you're trying to decide as an MS-3 student, where exactly to rotate in Derm in MS-4 to maximize your chances of matching into Derm or at least receiving interviews from places that you have rotated.
Penn actually has a fair number of non-Ivy < Penn is not in the top tier because of this< penn is top tier because if you took the 5 most famous/well funded derms and they took their talents elsewhere the dept would still be a top dept. if you did the same to utsw, yale, hopkins, northwestern etc those dept rankings would take a huge dip
anyone interview at pitt or UTSW today? how was your experience? anything out of the norm to prepare for? i'm nervous lol best of luck everyone! < had a really great time at Pitt - faculty asked really specific and meaningful questions < what kind of specific questions did they ask? did they have any kind of kodachrome like they had in past years? < specific questions about research I done, activites, etc.
If you missed out on II for this wave of programs, is there any chance you can secure one later on? Or that simply "it" for 11/7 wave? (i.e could you hear at a different time from UTSW or UPitt?) < curious too. any point of sending letter of interest to these programs right now?< same Q < some programs have multiple waves of interview invites
Not to add more stress, but UTSW was available for immediate scheduling. So stay on your toes and get ready to schedule today. < that's helpful, thank you! < are there any more dates for UTSW or was that the only release? :( < I'm pretty sure that's it for UTSW (source: it's my school)
random question but why is UTSW interview dates 2 days?
sooo reviewing the preseason game tapes...it would appear that the posts about UTSW were in fact....correct as we get yet another season with the same results we have come to expect from them LOL
LOL its real toxic out there and i aint talking about good ole botox
Why is it Toxic
What preseason posts x2
does utsw do rtm? yes< who called/emailed it? Dr. Cruz ? to you or your mentor? < My understanding is that no, they do not and this person is trolling.
