they also interviewed 50ish ppl. not sure how many yale did.

yale interviewed around 60 but people are real weird about it like sometimes a ton of negative info other times that info goes missing

you'll drink the koolaid at any of these programs. within derm, penn is the premiere program. harvard's name externally carries weight, but there's a cost to that (working ~10 hours more on average per week). no difference to future career prospects. yale is smallest chill

keep in mind that the advice on here is HEAVILY biased by people who are also ranking these programs, and often, playing games in that regard... imo the best advice is pick place where you'll be happiest whether that's location or culture (if you did an away/interview vibes) or something else

and as big a name as Harvard. >> most non-derm people don't know that Penn is a good program

id argue that while it is lesser known than harvard, the average person would understand that penn is at least "good" lol

also consider COL (a studio in boston proper ~2k)

i called the help desk on that website and they said to just send the reciept to the PC, which is what their original email to interview said as well

program specific, but generally yes. unclear why penn interviewed so many this year, though, so likely some exceptions to this rule

their website says 48-60, but still a lot

yale also interviews around 60 for 6 positions, but doubt these programs fall far on the list..

seems fairly standard for programs to interview 10 candidates for each residency spot

found it to be a good interview experience. people seemed to know my activities and such. That being said, I've had bad ones other people noted were great, so I think there's no way to tell!

dinner was fun, wanted to love.. but interview had mixed vibes and overall not what i expected

the residents were great but faculty mixed, some faculty even kind of antagonistic during interviews. one room probed uncomfortably. others no reactions. in a program that small it felt off. also, new haven lol.

I left the interview day loving the program. It is clear the program values their residents and doesn't just treat them like cheap labor. Felt at home with the residents. Faculty were very intentional in the questions they asked. The questions were tough but appropriate.

I thought I was the only one who felt this way. It makes me feel better that I wasn't the only one. I thought it was a "me" issue lol and that they didn't like me or think I was good enough.

at least for me some people were nicer/reacted more. Other just seemed kinda cold tbh and didn't really give verbal cues that they liked you or your responses.

right, especially since the night before they promoted the program as smaller, tight knit, and caring, but that did not ultimately seem to show

i had two or three rooms with faculty that either seemed to intentionally interrupt or disagree with whatever my answer was or downright showed no emotion or attempt to make small talk. Interview also dropping it lower on my list.

on the spreadsheet last year people noted similar things: not super collegial feeling, some discomfort with faculty interactions, some parts of interview felt inappropriate

they have also been accused of removing negative comments on the spreadsheet in previous years

someone DID remove negative comments from the yale name and shame this year as well

I'm def prioritizing my own wellbeing in this next stage of life meaning vibes/schedule/location right now matter more to me than prestige/ranking

literally whatever you want to prioritize too, if you want prestige then go for it, if you wanna be near family, go for it. it's your choice wo/man, no one else matters in this decision (except maybe if you have a spouse and kids)

they are putting a lot of same-tier programs on the same days. I had a Yale/NW/Penn conflict, for example, could only make 2 out of the 3

this happens every year; it's especially tough when programs assign your interview date

if you're able to have a "top 5" and that's not all of your schools, you're in a good spot. Drop your act, and the drop the II's

I wish programs were more accomodating of dates, I think it's very unfortunate OP had to drop one of those programs, they're clearly a great applicant and deserve to interview at all the programs they got if possible
