What anonymous posters said
Anonymous posters frequently described the program as favoring its own research fellows and internal candidates in the match, with several questioning how many spots go to outside applicants. Posts also debated its reputation, with some ranking it highly and others disputing that, and several noted interview invitations tend to arrive later than usual.

❌1. almost pointless to apply here if you aren't a research fellow or have a strong connection. nepotism is worth more than anything else here
❌2. I was offered an away in June and had to decline it because in their offer email they stated that because of the "number of attendings we would be rotating with" we should not expect letters of recommendation nor ask for them.
💬1. seriously, why would ANYONE waste a signal here if you didnt do a RY with the department? 90-100% of their spots go to their own fellows.
Thoughts on places like Sinai in general where a RY there gives you a huge leg up, should all RYs be like that >> Its high risk high reward; virtually all seats are internal pending you impress Guttman / don't step on any shoes

Thoughts on UCSD? Really thinking about an away there, would love to do residency there as well.
would love to know if UCSD is one of those programs where if you get an away it truly means they are considering you - I know other programs (wake forest, northwestern, penn) are rotation mills

UCSD would be so cool to rotate at but ik it's an investment so also wondering if it's worth rotating there>>> only do an away if you are from a prestigous school for them to consider you

Look at who they matched/prior matches, that should tell you everything (they love prestige)

the prestige thing is super true for UCSD. I II'd there from a mid-tier school and I was the only one not from like a top 20 lol

would you consider coming from Sinai to be prestigious or nah

they matched someone from Einstein this year and that was the "lowest" rank school they matched

seemed like they did an away there so maybe an away is worth doing if you aren't from a "top" school?

best derm research fellowships with guaranteed match?
duke, UAB, SLU, sinai, Emory, melanoma fellowship, penn

i don't agree Emory

also i wouldn't say any of these are guaranteed. it should be *highly increases* your chances of matching

also i would directly talk to the research fellows that are coming from these RYs. If the mentors are saying one thing, and RY fellows that matched are saying another about their experiences, I'd be wary. Don't forget that many applicants have home programs and other sources of networking/support that could have contributed in very meaningful positive ways.

also if mentors don't offer to connect you with past research fellows who have matched i'd take that as a red flag

Looked up the cook county PGY3 that got dismissed. Very sad that this can happen. How are people getting dismissed from derm programs? Have heard of many residents now getting dismissed, for example at Mount Sinai recently too
word of mouth. although not sure about each person's specific circumstances.

this post needs to be pinned. there are residents getting fired from programs and its too risky to be around unstable faculty who can ruin your career

just wait til you discover the cook county lawsuit and find out why he was allegedly dismissed. this programs history is so suspect you better have quite the conviction to rank highly

Rant: some programs just match research fellows exclusively year after year. What's the point of even applying to them? why do they interview anyone else? Looking at Mayo AZ as an example. Waste of time that the same PI with the same 2 fellows somehow has this amount of influence.
former student there - do not bother applying here if you are not Mangold's fellow

Is the sinai post MD fellowship really virtually guaranteed?

Surprised by NYU not being ranked as highly (seemingly) as some of the other NYC programs>> No one is suprised why rank them higher when sinai starts clinic at 9 am and has subsidized housing. < nyu clinic also starts at 9am but yeah the salary is bad
Yall did ALL THAT TALKING about Sinai yet look at how many ranked 1 lmaooo>are you surprised?how do you think we get all the liars and shady practices in academic derm? this starts early
For Sinai did they tell us if we interviewed for derm+research or just derm? Should you rank both if you applied to both and interviewed? < there were separate interviews for research track < tyty
almost--> it is
