3 entries❌1. almost pointless to apply here if you aren't a research fellow or have a strong connection. nepotism is worth more than anything else here
❌2. I was offered an away in June and had to decline it because in their offer email they stated that because of the "number of attendings we would be rotating with" we should not expect letters of recommendation nor ask for them.
💬1. seriously, why would ANYONE waste a signal here if you didnt do a RY with the department? 90-100% of their spots go to their own fellows.

what do people think about ohsu? i thought they were a bit intense, especially with their love for research < got the same feeling from Mount sinai which is very obsessed with research< longest interview day of my life. < like literally my bladder was about to explode when their chair still ongoing in the last session
Can people stop asking about Sinai < but all my homies love sinai < it is a great program, but the research vibe is so overwhelming (too much)
Anyone know anything about Sinai...know anyone who did their residency there and their thoughts? QoL, faculty, etc < M3? < yeah any medical students who can comment < you not gonna match there unless you're a home student or research fellow < that really sucks. they are selling themselves as totally trying to change everything with the new chair. < how many of the resident's you talked to weren't home grown? < definitely very few. wonder if the new chair will actually change anything, we will see soon enough < rank it high if you loved it and see what happens. no harm in trying < why do programs like this even bother to interview anyone, waste of time on both sides < i think they have a specific culture and want residents who fit that. my friend's sister went to med school at sinai and is now in derm elsewhere. she said it's a workhouse program and the students who stay to become residents know exactly what they're getting into. that's all i know about the program. seems like good training though.< thank you SO MUCH!!! super appreciate it <3 the insider perspective is so valuable when all these programs are so good at selling themselves < They also require their medical students to do a fellowship or they won't write letters of rec for them, which is kinda shitty. I do think they have strong training and will set you up to do well. Maybe email residents to hear what they have to say. < Wow that is super shitty. WTF. < they said they have 27 residents from 24 medical schools. < Do y'all know how many had done a fellowship there. Bet it's most//< someone from my mid tier school matched at sinai a few years ago and did not do a research fellowship. I think they did an away though < interesting, thanks! < yep you have to have sort of connection with them for match < this is really not true, per a resident i know they take some past fellows (every program does), but they match outside candidates every year " with "9 spots. 50-60 interviewees? not bad odds though. even if they favor internals. < I did searching their residents and vast majority of them did fellowship with them < I'm a Sinai MS III…wanted to know the facts. 13 of the current 27 residents were fellows. They have a lot of spots, so even if half go to internal candidates, that still leaves more open spots than most programs. She said that they take the fellows they like, but don’t take all the fellows. Also, Saudi spot isn’t a thing anymore and sinai students all get LORs < restored and protected the cell cause some asshole deleted it
https://forums.studentdoctor.net/threads/ut-houston.699063/ < i find it strange that there is no info about the residents besides their name < agree, every other program has pics or some background...from my interview doesnt seen updated < ya, like their med school name at least, gives me sinai secretive vibes < Goes along with the workhorse vibe, seems residents are not prioritized < y'alls think there's something in the texas water? utsw also scares me < have resident friends in both, said do not rank < any other insights besides workhorse culture on utsw, currently ranked 3rd for me but happy to have reason to move down < favoritism amongst faculty for residents, big on weekly quizzes on random factoids < knew about quizzes, didn't know about favoritism. do you know to what extent? < thats at any program < zamn, thought they'd treat us all the same. y'all think it's based on mentors/med school < i guess they're going to have fav's when there's like 30 residents total < weekly quizzes definitely NOT at every program lol < utsw the only one i know of lol < It is not graded and low stress
Anyone knows how many internal students + research fellows in mount sinai? And I am not asking anything to do with Saudi IMG. They stopped it last year
Could any kind soul share interview impression with Mount Sinai? Behvaioral or conversational x1 < I think they just started interview today ?
Where can I learn more about the Mount Sinai derm research fellowship? I want to know if its a 1 yr program, if its for M3's, what board scores are needed, etc
anyone interviewing with mt sinai beth israel prelim wednesday and gotten no info? or if you have interviewed in past when did they reach out < one day before interview
did anyone interviewing at Mt. Sinai get a schedule with who they are interviewing with?
Any insiders know how many research fellows are there in Mount Sinai this year? If there are more than 9, I highly doubt outsiders have chance loll
Has anyone interviewed at Mount Sinai yet? Appreciate your input about general impression. There is nothing in the IV Impression tab
best research fellowships/mentors? < For medical students or for MD only research fellowships? < i would love to head about the successful MD only research fellowships for people who didnt match the first time.... is it like sinai, NW, UCSF, UCD? < Mt. Sinai is probably best to match at Sinai. UCSF and NW would help best to match at other places not necessarily at UCSF and NW. < what about miami, or wu's fellowship? < i am looking at wu's page and he says all of his fellows have published 10 reviews and retrospective studies which sounds like torture but they have a good track record of matching medical students at least. doesnt look like as many MD fellows. < Jashin Wu used to be at Kaiser Perm Derm when that program started new but I don't think he's with them anymore. It looks like he mainly takes students now to help do his research. Likely unpaid. < oh ew, not doing anything unpaid ever again < If you do a research fellowship post MD those are almost always paid because you have something valuable you can get after USMLE Step 3 completion and internship completion: a full medical license < thank goodnessy
How hard is it to get the sinai research fellowship? What do accepted students' stats, med school title, etc look like < I heard they took a lot of research fellows < Is that the fellowship still with Mark Lebwohl?
Is mount sinai done with interview?
