Fame & Shame
2025–2026 Derm
3 entries❌1. almost pointless to apply here if you aren't a research fellow or have a strong connection. nepotism is worth more than anything else here
❌2. I was offered an away in June and had to decline it because in their offer email they stated that because of the "number of attendings we would be rotating with" we should not expect letters of recommendation nor ask for them.
💬1. seriously, why would ANYONE waste a signal here if you didnt do a RY with the department? 90-100% of their spots go to their own fellows.

"what do people think of the doximity rankings? are they useful at all? << Depends what your criteria are for filtering through programs. < at one point I thought they had actual criteria for the rankings, but apparently it's just alumni opinion? Or am I reading that wrong? Seems like a less than objective way to rank < It's all based on opinion. In the past, there have been a few publications that have attempted to rank programs based on NIH funding, faculty, residents, research output, etc (https://cdn.mdedge.com/files/s3fs-public/Document/September-2017/CT094100189_REV.pdf) but this is outdated now. From what I've been told, you've got the big powerhouses (NYU, Penn, UCSF, Harvard, Yale, Stanford), the great but not quite top programs (Emory, Northwestern, Sinai, Wake Forest, Johns Hopkins, Miami, UTSW), a bunch of solid programs that aren't particularly famous for research or anything but will still train you well and prepare you for a career, and then a few bottom tier programs that have been known to have issues (ie flagged by ACGME, residents don't match to fellowships, program closes midway through a year, etc) < is there anything more recent?"
I find programs where there is discordance between doximity ranks and general sentiments (from other students, residents, attendings) to be interesting. e.g. Mt. Sinai and Michigan. Any idea *why* that is the case? Any other examples?
Does mount sinai finish all their interview dates?
yo that sinai rejection email is the funniest shit I've ever read. basically "shoutout to all you non-interviewers!!!" lmfaooooo < When did you receive it? < I just checked it and it was actually a sinai associated prelim, not the derm program lol that's what I get for reading too fast < lol im honestly shocked i didn't get invites to any of the of the Mt Sinai prelims, i know for a fact my app is better than some of the people from my school that have matched there in the past < Same. I wonder if they've taken mediocre/disinterested derm people in the past. < you dodged a bullet because having interviewed at a coupe of their prelims, they're not great < really, i heard morningside/west is good
anyone go to mt sinai for med? Does the name help a lot like T5 schools or no? Ik mt sinau aint t10 but it is t20 right as a med school
Is it easy, moderate, or hard to match to a T10 derm program (specifically NYU or UCSF) from a T20 med school (specifically Mt. Sinai)? Will the name, faculty, and other elitism-rel. < Name doesn't seem to matter at NYU based on my interview < lol go check the med school distribution of the current residents and you'll see how much it matters < or maybe it's just a natural progression - the most competitive students end up at these schools, and they progress to the most competitive residencies? who knows < isnt this the program the chair told us they took a student from the state school UCSF? you're telling me you dont think there have been compettive students not in those schools that they seem to keep taking? < yea the "competitive students end up at competitive programs" is a cop out, especially considering that a lot of brilliant students often choose state med schools over top places for scholarships/lower tuition < I'm pretty sure that calling UCSF a "state school" was an inside joke. UCSF has a top tier derm program. The Derm people at NYU aren't stupid. < where you there? no it wasn't. may he is just that out of touch < i was there, it definitely wasnt a joke
shooting in chicago mall. am i crazy for ranking chicago/baltimore programs low bc of this? < so? today its there tomorrow its in chicago proper deleted because i didnt want to minimize the tragedy of this horrific event but i dont think any derm programs are based in this suburb< ikr. the d i want to be is dermatologist not dead :( < ironic you're deciding between chicago/blatimore an sinai, cuz at sinai u will wish ur dead lolz
Has anyone had their Sinai interview date confirmed yet?
How many interviews does Mt Sinai send out? + how many are given to their own students/fellows lol < I think every program interviews their own students and fellows…no idea on total number offered < they offer a lot res spots so i wonder how much nepostism even matters < agree <not to stir the pot but whats the situation with the Saudi derms at Sinai? How many do they usually accept per year? < see hot takes. this has been covered a ton. used to exist, no longer does
Sinai II sent <email or eras? <email <are we not able to schedule until Dec 14th? < it says RSVP by that date, just a deadline IMO <do we shcedule by just emailing coordinator? < yes or replying in ERAS. I replied in ERAS :) <have you gotten a confirmation yet? < no, and don't expect one tonight :) < thanks for the smiles
