What is the structure of the Harvard away rotation schedule? Any weekends? All advice from others who rotated there is appreciated!

#5572025–2026 DermFeb 21

when i did it weekends were always off

Thoughts on UCSD? Program sounds nice but it seems they only want prestige? I heard back about an away there but wondering if its even worth it if I am coming from a mid tier or lower. Seems they love their Harvard people... --> a friend who matched there affirmed that most of her interview cohort was from top programs, do with that what you will

#4722025–2026 DermFeb 21

seems like it could be true but also could be a self-fulfilling prophecy. but also coming from a low tier i didn't get an interview while i got interviews from several more prestigious names. i also had no geo connection tho

Has anyone heard back positively from aways at UCSD or Harvard for July or September?

#4132025–2026 DermFeb 21

I am doing a UCSD Peds Derm Away in July. They told me adult derm is basically full from home students every month. For UCSD?

How did folks who applied/rejected for the Harvard rotation for the months of September/October already find out? I thought they reviewed apps after each deadline (e.g., for September after June 4th?)

What is the general consensus on the derm research fellow positoins at Massachusetts General Hospital?

#1342025–2026 DermFeb 21

general consensus regarding what?> regarding the research fellow position. Is it worth it? does it have good match outcomes, is PI toxic etc> There are several PI's at MGH. theres not just one research fellow position.

Feb 21
0

yes im aware just giving general ideas of the answer im looking for

Feb 21
0

you want specific answers to nonspecific questions> Many people have asked similar questions youre being intelligent WEIRD. I was asking for overall opinions and what people know about their research fellow positions not necessarily looking for answers to specific questions

Feb 21

OP asked a valid question why are they getting slack?

Feb 21

Other dude has a point, hard question to answer. >Hard to generalize, but I think its safe to assume that boston is expensive, and RYs are never paid that well. Also because there's so many PIs, its well known the MGH RYs don't help that much in matching Harvard, but the research itself could be very impactful

Did Harvard really poach Harris from UMass? :(

As a HMS MS4 who has a 260+ and RY with 20+ indexable pubs and no home interview, I feel like being at HMS is a huge con. No aways means I don't have networking with other programs, then while the ii list doesnt interview home students as a courtesy. I have 0 II rn and I want to kms wtf

#18132025–2026 DermFeb 21

Are HMS not allowed to do aways?

Feb 21
0

I'm so sorry and I'm surprirsed the HMS name didn't garner you some :/ you're clearly qualified

Feb 21
0

OP here, PD and faculty tell us not to do aways on purpose as they can "only hurt you"...

Feb 21
0

I personally was told to do as many aways as the limit because I was a "good clinical rotator". They told the other person applying with me not to.

Feb 21
0

are u also HMS?

Feb 21
0

can confirm top programs tell their students not to do aways because 'it can only hurt them,' but i think they are realizing the game changed this year and will likely sing another song next year

Feb 21

How many II do you have HMSer

for what it's worth i was told not to do aways by a mentor who primarily worked on research w/ me and then told to do aways by res/attendings i rotated with because it would be a good way for me to stand out to programs. so i would get multiple opinions from people before deciding not to do aways

Feb 21
0

so like what changed this year?? as an aside I think the faculty are getting tired of applicants just putting pediatric derm and wanting to work with underserved communities and not actually wanting to do that in the future. so if you're planning on putting those two to stand out, don't unless you actually strongly are passionate

Feb 21

I mean HMS is lowkey trash. Name can only go so far, hard work matters more!

HMS toxic

Feb 21

why is hms toxic

Feb 21

i mean OP clearly worked hard lol

Feb 21

I'd argue it's not toxic, faculty just assume students at "elite" schools don't need as much guidance and we'll figure it out ourselves which is not necessarily true lol

Thoughts on the Harvard-affiliated medicine prelim programs (BWH, MGH, BIDMC)? Those were my 1 - 3 and just wondering if I shot myself in the foot with a tough intern year... >they are tough. too late to worry now though! Boston is a lovely city :)

#33482025–2026 DermMar 17

BIDMC is probably the hardest one, you only get 2 - 4 weeks of elective, otherwise you are a medicine categorical. I think BWH and MGH are better built preliminary programs overall.

Is it just me or do Hopkins students not match all that well compared to other peer schools?

#36132025–2026 DermApr 15

bro they went 10/13 this year at crazy institutions. yeah their derm deparment is weaker but they matched incredibly well. also hopkins r

Two people in T5s, two more in T10s...pretty solid if u ask me

Apr 15

Also, people have higher priorities than matching at the “top” programs. Who wants to go to Harvard work-horse and live in miserable Boston

Apr 15

Bruh, in what world is UCSF, Northwestern, UCSD, NYU, Southwestern not impressive. I also think it’s impressive that everyone was able to match at other institutions besides Hopkins. It’s prob more impressive than say, CWRU where a bunch of internals stayed

Apr 15

Plus being able to match at some of these CA / NYC programs without aways, crackedd

Apr 15

Lmao Hopkins really catching strays this cycle

Apr 15

prestige and there's nothing wrong with that. Also matching 10 people from a single institution is a huge accomplishment.

Hopkins as a med school is very good so the name prob carries despite the derm dpt being not as strong >Also, people have higher priorities than matching at the “top” programs. Who wants to go to Harvard work-horse and live in miserable Boston

Ah yes hopkins deleting any info about them, as per usual

#36172025–2026 DermApr 18

Bring it back plz

Apr 18

It was mostly positive toward Hopkins, idk why they would be the ones to delete it

Apr 19

what is the tea about them

there's no tea, it was actually just a bunch of people defending Hopkins. idk why someone was so pressed to delete it

What was that Doctorly Games thing at AAD I keep seeing in social media? Did some of the resident really win $25,000!?
