What anonymous posters said

Anonymous posters frequently discussed the interview process, including timing of invite calls, rejections, and Step 2 score requirements before rank lists. Several commenters described the program as highly regarded for clinical training and subspecialty exposure, though opinions on workload and culture varied, with some calling it demanding and others disputing negative characterizations. Multiple posts noted few internal candidates remain for residency and suggested California ties may be helpful in admissions.

Fame & Shame

2025–2026 Derm

4 entries

1. Elitist (to no one's surprise), and many faculty give preferential treatment to rotating medical students from more prestigious schools. As much as they emphasize being socially attuned and progressive, at the end of the day, they're just another ivory tower institution masquerading as a social justice warrior.

1. You don't actually HAVE to be a former pediatrician to apply for this and be considered. Wish I knew this earlier, I would have applied.

2. Interviewer made disparaging comments about where I went to school

💬1. It does say on their website "preferred but not required;" I wonder if they've taken applicants w/o previous peds residency. > guess we will find out soon > this is the first year of the track and it seemed like everybody was an MS4 during the interview +1

i know that theres a handful of programs (ucsf, suny downstate, tufts, etc) that ask for your step 2 score at some point, but did last year's applicants find that programs generally asked for your step 2 score before ranking you?

#8342017-2018 DermMar 23

I felt that was the general consensus. Are people really putting off Step 2 until that late in the season?

Mar 23
0

Yeah all the smart people are. I know you dont think your step 2 score is going to help you get an interview| I know you think your step 2 score is going to keep you from getting an interview.

Mar 23

The Step 2 by rank list time rule is more institutional-based than derm program based and that's more so that the programs at that institution aren't left hanging if you were not to pass Step 2 CS or CK.

Mar 23

Does anyone know if derm programs will be requesting our Step 2 scores?

#6272017-2018 DermMar 23

I hope noT

Mar 23

According to last years thread UCSF, Cleveland Clinic, and SUNY downstate request Step2CK scores prior to ranking| are you guys not releasing your step 2 to porgrams?

Mar 23

what do people think about ck? should we be releasing scores? im trying to put taking mine off as long as possible but idk if thats a bad idea.| Also very curious about this. Can anyone who previously applied comment on if the score matters at this point?

#6212017-2018 DermMar 23

Spoke with a program director today at a top 20 program and he said that most programs like to see at least consistency with CK scores from Step 1, if not improvement. So yes, I'd imaging that they do matter. (Hi! To clarify - the top 20 PD I talked to was speaking in terms of who they invite to interview.)

Mar 23
0

Thanks. To clarify, he said this for the purpose of inviting for interviews (i.e score available now) or for creating a rank list (i.e. score becomes available in January)?

Mar 23
0

I've talked to a lot of different residents and applicants from last year on this issue, and the consensus seems to be that certain programs (UCSF, Downstate, etc) will ask for your score prior to rank (not prior to interview), but for the most part, CK is still less of a factor for dermatology.

Mar 23
0

Thank you!! Do other places besides UCSF, Downstate, etc. even request CK scores?

Mar 23

bump - does anyone know if other programs require CK?

UCSF interview invite call! External x1

#5872017-2018 DermMar 23

Are interview dates really on Sundays?

Mar 23
0

Theyre both fridays

Mar 23
0

Sorry for the confusion! The dates are 1/10 and 1/17, not 12/10 and 12/17. Both Wednesdays. I Can someone confirm UCSF called or did only one person get the notification so far?

Mar 23
0

Anyone else feel like this is going to be a disappointing week?

Mar 23
0

Please let this be a troll - can someone confirm this?

Mar 23
0

Def not trolling. I wrote the comment and someone else added x1, so I assume at least 2 people have gotten the call so far? I This is a huge program that interviews a lot of people, kind of weird no one else is talking about this invite I Could those of you who received the call mention what they said? i.e. will they send out an email? // did you already schedule or are they waiting until after the email goes out?

Mar 23
0

I'm going to call bullshit on this - no one posted about a UCSF invite until 8 pm ET? It's just difficult to believe

Mar 23
0

Cool. Thanks for deleting my comment because you're delusional about you not getting an invite at UCSF.

Mar 23
0

<---- I didn't see anyone delete anything, and this is not helping your case of not being a troll

Mar 23
0

Come on, guys. UCSF is one of the top programs in the country. People aren't trolling here. You just didn't get an invite. Get over it.

Mar 23
0

Exactly, it's one of the top programs, so why are there seemingly <2 people posting about getting invites?

Mar 23
0

External x2. Phone call at 7:30 EST. Said they would send an email "after Thanksgiving"

Mar 23
0

It would be nice if there was someone signed into an account who could confirm they've gotten an interview. Because all I've seen so far is anonymous comments. I Thanks guys, I believe you and appreciate you telling us!

Mar 23
0

My call was also around 7:30pm.

Mar 23
0

<---- Yet another anonymous comment.

Mar 23
0

There are multiple people here saying they got interviews. If you don't believe us, it's on you. We are not trolling.

Mar 23
0

Or it's 1 person who's bullshitting...

Mar 23
0

why does it matter if its a troll. we will never know until you get a call yourself and there is no way to tell either way. I can understand why people want to remain anonymous. Just leave it and time will tell.

Mar 23

You need to calm down bro

Mar 23

This whole thing sounds fishy, especially with the wrong dates at the beginning.

Mar 23
0

Wow. I'm glad that UCSF did a good job of filtering out these psychos... Is this your way of coping? Geez

Mar 23
0

Why were all the other comments (i.e. "external x3" and the comment explaining that the date mix up was an honest mistake) deleted? The moderators should not be picking and choosing what gets posted here.

Mar 23

I'm going to go ahead and nominate the "filtering out these psychos" comment for dbag of the month award x4

#5862017-2018 DermMar 23

lol all it takes is one glance at cell A47 to know how many psychos frequent this spreadsheet. just look at that massive block text of delusion and panic. one mention of an interview from a top school and people lose their minds and go into denial. a similar thing happened with UCSF on last year's spreadsheet, too. the same thing will happen this year with the other top schools. x2

Mar 23
0

Yeah... I wasnt lucky/qualified enough to get an interview at UCSF myself and I agree that the "filtering out these psychos" comment was messed up but ya'll need to chill the f*** out.

Mar 23

I think it's worth pointing out that UCSF probably isnt even a good fit for 90+% of the spreadsheet. Yes it's a fantastic name with fantastic training, but it, like many other top programs, is totally geared toward churning out academic dermatologists who are professors and do research. If your passion is strictly clinical derm, and most especially if you're not particularly interested in an academic career (career, not job), then I honestly believe a smaller, less "brand-name" program is really what you're looking for. And at the end of the day, they still call the lady/gentleman that matched at their last choice program "dermatologist"

#5852017-2018 DermMar 23

i agree. but just like with med school and with college before that, there will always be people who will never be happy unless they go to a brand name school. i know one of the applicants from penn this year, he/she is a total ivy league elitist. just an example.

Mar 23

#5842017-2018 DermMar 23

Apparently we're not allowed to post interview invites from top programs on this spreadsheet (see Yale, UCSF)

Mar 23
0

Harvard, Stanford, Penn, and NYU will crash the sheet

Mar 23

Mid or low-tier program sends out an invite -> "Congrats! Internal or external? Any ties to the program?" vs Top-tier program send out an invite "I DIDNT GET AN INVITE THERE SO YOU MUST BE A TROLL. WHY ARE YOU COMMENTING ANONYMOUSLY? LIARRRRRRRRR"

Mar 23

Please stop. This is not productive.

Mar 23

Anyone from UCSF get an invite?

#5832017-2018 DermMar 23

UCSF internal invite

Mar 23

UCSF internals are given courtesy interviews and invites were sent out at the start of the interview season

Mar 23

I️ really wish someone would archive, I️ think we could all use a fresh start after the whole UCSF debacle.

#5822017-2018 DermMar 23

UCSF invite (call received on 11/8) l Thanks! What time did you receive the call?

#5802017-2018 DermMar 23

LIARRRRRRRRRRRRRRR WHY IS ONLY ONE PERSON POSTING? AND WHY IS HE/SHE COMMENTING ANONYMOUSLY? SHOW US YOUR CALL RECORDS AND YOUR BIRTH CERTIFICATE

Mar 23

Please refrain from resolving other poster's comments... even ridiculous ones like this.

Mar 23

Normally, I would agree with you, but the comment above is basically trolling. So it will be resolved/deleted if posted.

Mar 23

I resolved the invite comment and it was not an anonymous comment.

Mar 23

Anonymous or not, it's trolling and adds nothing to this conversation.

Stanford invite!!! Holy crap. Through ERAS - 1/12/18.

hmmm stanford doesn't traditionally use ERAS for invites

Mar 23

The email was through ERAS but there was no ERAS scheduling (since there's only 1 date)

Mar 23
0

the denial is apparently still alive and well here

Mar 23
0

But... but... It's November, which is the 11th month of the year, and 1=2, where the 2nd letter in Stanford is "t," meaning that Stanford gives out invites on Tuesdays. IT'S A TROLL, EVERYBODY!

Mar 23
0

Stanford typically does internals on separate date - not this year?

Mar 23
0

Stanford didn't release anything lol

Mar 23
0

are you sure, how do you know? Was this the troll too? I was wondering ... MODERATORS: any news on whether this stanford thing was a troll or not?

Mar 23

Please don't let this turn into a UCSF-style debacle. I got an interview - you can choose to believe it or not. I love how no one questions Case Western, Vandy, or Minnesota.

Mar 23

Thanks! I believe you, was just confused by all these unhelpful comments. Do you mind telling me if you're external or an internal student/away rotator? I really appreciate it.
