Fame & Shame

2025–2026 Derm

2 entries

1. Very fucking weird vibes while rotating there. Attendings are nice to your face, harsh behind your back. Residents (including chiefs) are talking shit about certain nurses. Everyone can be super cold (esp some of the nurses? idk maybe just a NYC thing). Residents ask you to do little personal errands not related to patient care.

💬1. Might be a NYC thing with the nurses; they've been on strike in the past few months and tensions been building up. Frequent discussions on r/residency about the dynamic between NYC nurses and residents. > personal errands sounds like some bullshit > a friend who did an away there told me he was asked to help with picking up a resident's child lol > that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard respectfully a crazy thing to ask a med student

Are the T5 programs equal in impressiveness (UCSF = Penn = Harvard = NYU = Yale/Stanford) or is there an internal tier difference with one group being significantly better than the others?

#812026-2027 DermApr 4

The best one is the one you like the most (+/- the one in the city you like the most)

Apr 4

This obsession with T5s, jeez. If it makes you happy, great! At the end of the day you will be a dermatologis though. People from not T5s end up as faculty at T5s all the time, and many T5 residents end up going into private practice.

when people say t5 programs, are they referring to doximity lists (penn, ucsf, harvard. nyu. yale?)

#35482025–2026 DermMar 27

yes, stanford in there too. there are really 6 T5 programs.

is it true that UCSF residents manage attendings' inbox? < yes> what about NYU?

#27672025–2026 DermFeb 21

UCSF residents manage an attendings inbox all together when they're on that specialty clinics rotation. It's not every month or every clinic + they're given protected time (separate from regular academic time) to do it

Feb 21
0

UCSF does not manage attending inbox

Feb 21
0

NYU only manages inbox for patients they have seen in clinic

Feb 21

do you know if you get academic/admin time at nyu

yes you do

CCF residents also only manage inboxs for patients they have seen in clinic and are also given protected administrative time.

resident suicide(s) in the past? idk, i cant find much info on it.

Feb 21

Resident has also been terminated in the program before.

Feb 21

what do you have to do to get terminated damn < idk, but there was also an nyu resident who terminated before. it was a whole thing on this spreadsheet a few years ago.

i was scrolling and noticed that there are a number of posts that mention how stanford is "not prestigious" and "not really a t5" with no comments to back that up and the postiive post about stanford vs ucsf got deleted. im not saying these patterns are shady, but im not not saying it. and yes, i can read doximity, but the point stands.

#26092025–2026 DermFeb 21

Stanford has an unmatched brand name and is, non-negotiably, a top program. Anyone who tries to convince you not to go there likely has ill intentions

Feb 21
0

agreed. same with UCSF, Penn, NYU, Harvard, etc.

Feb 21
0

the person was asking Stanford vs ucsf and others commented they'll be ranking Stanford over ucsf. Felt like several people said that

Feb 21
0

I think patterns are very shady, OP. haha.

Feb 21

lmao

Feb 21

imagine being in the position to get to choose ucsf or stanford COULDNT BE ME must be nice

Feb 21

A lot of mental masturbation and obsession over what the top programs are and comparing them. As a derm resident, I will say to be grateful if you match anywhere and be extra grateful if you match at one of your top choices/place you really liked + 10002

nyu vs northwestern in terms of QoL / stress levels? -> northwestern for Qol and better stress levels

#25532025–2026 DermFeb 21

why was nyu shame deleted

#25432025–2026 DermFeb 21

along the same lines, why do people say it is toxic? The residents seem super happy and their schedule seems very manageable?

Feb 21
0

it was factually incorrect. the residents love the program, the salary is fine (residents are always going out to eat and doing fun things in the city), really enjoyed my away. people love to seem "in the know" by repeating that nyu is so "toxic". in reality, so many people want to go there and are jealous they cannot get an interview

Feb 21
0

i have heard from multiple current nyu students that it is in fact toxic lol

Feb 21
0

as a current nyu student, they say this because some are chosen to pre-match and some are not. Again, jealousy. I promise we all want to match at nyu lmfao.

Feb 21

nyu attendings are in fact toxic. the program is toxic

how many of the nyu spots are already filled? i know peds derm is filled but what else

#24802025–2026 DermFeb 21

didnt interview there but i know that they reserve some spots for their internals through the guaranteed 3 year program. no clue how many tho

Feb 21

What are your thoughts if we were able to prematch to residency programs?

#24792025–2026 DermFeb 21

I've prematched, and it feels great!

Feb 21
0

congrats on escaping the rat race

Feb 21
0

Wait huh?? Programs can prematch? Or are you trolling?

Feb 21
0

definitely must be trolling lol

Feb 21
0

ive heard of this in other specialities, not derm

Feb 21
0

not OP but heard NYU derm prematches internals really early on

Feb 21
0

this is true

Feb 21
0

they've had their next peds person picked out since like july -> yeah :(

Feb 21
0

honestly well-deserved, can't imagine the competitiveness for that spot -> is it tho? people were very upset about it -> gunner who betrayed peers that were crushed

Feb 21
0

idk about prematching but a lot of programs seem to have their home applicants picked out in advance even if they dont officially come out and say it

Feb 21
0

is this like an official out of match offer so their interviews are for show? Or a verbal thing.

Feb 21
0

some dont officially say it but the vibes are very obvious whom they are choosing... but often they have other spots they are interviewing for as well so wouldnt say its for show just maybe the home spot.
