Fame & Shame

2025–2026 Derm

1. Very fucking weird vibes while rotating there. Attendings are nice to your face, harsh behind your back. Residents (including chiefs) are talking shit about certain nurses. Everyone can be super cold (esp some of the nurses? idk maybe just a NYC thing). Residents ask you to do little personal errands not related to patient care.

💬1. Might be a NYC thing with the nurses; they've been on strike in the past few months and tensions been building up. Frequent discussions on r/residency about the dynamic between NYC nurses and residents. > personal errands sounds like some bullshit > a friend who did an away there told me he was asked to help with picking up a resident's child lol > that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard respectfully a crazy thing to ask a med student

How is NYU interviewing 120 people for 8 slots? isnt that excessive?| Lol someone must be trolling. There are only 2 interview dates. I'm nearly positive they are not interviewing 60 per day. x2

#4962017-2018 DermMar 23

actually if you look at the other schools it is a lowish to average number ... 15 or 20 to 1 slot is typical

Top five programs don’t interview 15 per spot or go that deep on rank list. No PD/ Chair is going to want to see 60 applicants in a day. PSA: Don’t feed the troll. x2

Sorry, you're probably right. Mea culpa.

So we're back to deleting stuff, huh?

I can't exactly what was said previously but it was along the lines of saying the person who made the comment to the left is "humble bragging" and that "mea culpa" is a poor excuse (brought to you by someone who can post on here and believes in trans-fair-ency. eg SWA)

this was not false or misleading information. people should be able to post on here freely without the mods regulating which content gets published or not per their liking.

Can someone confirm that NYU will be interviewing 60 applicants? Previously, I saw that they were interviewing 120 applicants.

#2502017-2018 DermMar 23

I do not know the exact number but I guarantee they are not interviewing 120 applicants. That number is ridiculous.

The session I was at last week had ~15 people and there's 4 sessions so 60 is an educated guess

Mar 23

Per residents, ~60 is correct.

Anyone get a RTM call from NYU?

#612017-2018 DermMar 23

My friend got a call last week.

Mar 23

Anyone else hear the same?

Mar 23

I heard secondhand that NYU made RTM calls (from what I think are reliable sources).

Mar 23

Please stop with the trolling. I know firsthand from talking to the current residents that NYU has not made RTM calls

Mar 23

and how exactly would residents know if the PD decided to make calls?

Any RTM calls/emails recently?

#422017-2018 DermMar 23

As far as I know, the only programs who have done it are: UCSF, Yale, NYU, UPenn, NW. Am I missing any?| I thought NYU didn't?

Why are positive comments about NYU and Stanford being deleted?

#242017-2018 DermMar 23

dont act dumb. people are gunners. shit is getting changed in an attempt to manipulate people. It has happened every year and it is hapening again this year. get over it. dont make decisions based on those comments. it is out of our control.

Anyone know if NYU allows for elective time?

Does anyone know how competitve those 1-year fellowships in complex medical derm and derm-rheum are for those of us who end up at non-top-tier programs? I'm only asking because these fellowships are located at Harvard/UCSF/Penn/NYU and am wondering if they usually just take their own

Can anyone with experience at both comment on NYU vs Cornell? I know NYU is more "prestigious," but the schedule there seems relatively oppressive, and I got a friendlier/happier vibe at Cornell.

Anybody who is ranking NYU for prelim medicine? If so, did you go to check out Lutheran? I wasn't able to :(

Thoughts about Harvard re: lack of metorship/continuity, lots of call, too many clinical sites, long hours, etc.? I really want to like the place, but these things worry me... (say, vs. NYU)| Or vs. Stanford

So I'm a die hard west coast person, but I'm wondering if it will be a big mistake to rank UCLA above NYU. Anyone with any perspective care to shed some light? I know I'm lucky to be in this position, but still... (different from the above person)
