❌2. Most stressful interview day. No breaks between rooms. Rapid fire of very challenging questions and follow-ups. Felt very judged with every answer I gave. PD responded with rudeness after I asked a basic question.

how much do pre-approvals to ~apply~ to aways mean, stanford peds derm said that "they normally accept outside students unless there is a Stanford student in the same period" and I don't know if that's referring to me or in general

Looking at the match list, it appears that top tier schools matched really well. I wonder if there were students at stanford, UCSF, harvard etc that didn't match this cycle. just curious if that is a big "IT" factor (where you go to med school)

So I'm applying for aways because I didn't match and am tweaking my CV. I did some very selective aways (i.e., Stanford), would it be worth it to include this in my CV for VSLO or would this scare away programs potentially because I've already done many aways and they're a much higher tier?

This should go without saying but if you notice that a program has mainly, if not all, DO Derm residents, don't waste your money as an allopathic MD student in ERAS fees for those programs. The merger doesn't mean anything in terms of equal consideration of your application.
as a recently matched DO resident, I can say this is largely true. Most DO programs won't take MD candidates. Maybe this will change in the future, but not true now. May also not be true if you have a strong tie to the program. Does this 50/50 lecture & clinic based derm elective count as rotating through your home derm program, or no?

technically you do rotate but half the rotation is didactics and assignments, after July we're able to sign up for our formal home rotations though < I would just prepare well in advance for your away rotation for July and then do your home program rotation the next month.

Most of them will interview you unless you're hard to work with. This exclude the t5s tho. They only interview top applicants and away rotations to show interest are less useful. < not true, look at the away rotations tab to make sure people get interviews < Stanford is a T5 and interviews pretty much all rotators< Stanford is more exclusive with giving out away rotations to students. They don't participate with vslo

What west coast programs are high yield for away rotations? I'm thinking about UC Davis, Kaiser, University of washington?

Is it worth even trying for an away at stanford, or too low yield ? < You miss all the shots you don't take<there is no harm in applying. if you apply for and get the away rotation at stanford what people were trying to say is suddenly your pre-test probability for actually matching there is a lot higher having gotten the away there than getting any away rotation by itself at any other institution given the scrutiny they place on selecting just a few rotators. the math works out but people still dont like to believe in facts on here < I personally know of 3 people that got aways at Stanford but none seemed to match there so I'm wondering if its low yield even after getting the away<if you made it this far as a trainee i dont need to tell you what is wrong with extrapolating from n=3 people. stanford away rotators have gotten ranked very high and many have matchrd there before. your odds are better there than umiami or harvard or almost any institution besides places like emory maybe. since stanford derm interviews are such a small number of trainees you can literally extrapolate how ranking would have been done many years of applicants and show that the odds are incredibly high for away rotators < on the flip side I know of about 4 people who did aways this past year and they all interviewed and matched there so
