Fame & Shame
2025–2026 Derm
4 entries✅1. All of the hospitals are beautiful
❌1. I heard that their Peds Derm spot is guaranteed to whoever their current research fellow is, the nepotism runs deep. Good luck.
❌2. Most stressful interview day. No breaks between rooms. Rapid fire of very challenging questions and follow-ups. Felt very judged with every answer I gave. PD responded with rudeness after I asked a basic question.
💬1. well the shame is clearly not true as this year's peds match was not the research fellow +1. very organized interview day and responsive coordinator. > hated this interview day seemed like they were trying to see how you do under stress

Mizzou and SLU?
NYU
I'd like to give a nod to the University of Missouri for the pizza at lunch. Bahn Mi pizza was delicious
Henry Ford for the best snacks. Dried fruit, chocolate covered (dont remember what), and Rx bars

Miami. That Cuban food was so good
I love this town, the people, the food - pork sandwiches - my favorite ... but tonight I'm hungry for something different
UCSFx2 gotta love that sushi and ice cream sandwich combo
Kaiser lunch had bomb build your own bibimbap
TX A&M had chick fil a sandwiches so them for sure
Yale "foods of New Haven" was bomb x 2
The Mexican food at Stanford + the mediterranean food at stanford
Dartmouth pre-fixe farm to table dinner the night before
I think they match very well for Mohs despite not having a fellowship themselves x2
how do you know this?
in an earlier post someone mentioned that stanford had a 100% mohs match rate, so I'm going off that and the fact that it's stanford
ok, but where did that person get his/her info? I doubt any program (even Stanford) is 100%
idk
<Does anyone know about Mohs match rate for Hopkins. they don't have a fellowship either
I know they always have people match...but I'm not sure how many have not matched in the past few years which is what matters more
everyone has matched from JHU in the past 5 years
I know of 1 who has not in past 5 years, I think rest have so still good match rate
< same :( / same as well, everyone loves the same 15 to 20 programs :( there goes my match to somewhere I care about
on the opposite end, looking at the list stressed me out because places I ranked high others didn't and places I ranked low others ranked high. Makes me wonder if I messed up my ROL x2
Its not really a surprise that people are ranking places like Harvard, Penn, Stanford, UCSF, etc. highly...
mrw no one is ranking my #1 as #1 or #2, which means i might match there and i would be very happy :))
Spoke with internal applicant at another program; it's v unlikely to budge this year given as the date has no conflicts
yeah I don't think anyone will get off waitlist this year x2
Jan 17 has no conflicts, ain't nobody cancelling a Stan interview
very unlikely
You guys forget that January 16 (their internal date) might have cancellations. Overlaps with Harvard and others
don't think stanford has a large applicant class and also don't think they're precluded from the 17th
small applicant class makes me wonder why they don't just open up January 16 to externals as well. Only 7 internal applicants + 3 rotators?
Wow that's a lot less than I would have expected. Does anyone know how many they interview on their external date?
I don't know where you got those numbers, but you're wrong. Stanford has a fair number of fellowship applicants as well.
that makes more sense
Did Stanford go out already?
no, but maybe for internals?<is Stanford coming out today?
at least one fellowship from each
Doesn’t matter. All about your instagram presence at that point< HAHA
100% true
depends on how many giveaways/month
This may be dumb to say but maybe Stanford since the population may be most like private?
<<Dude, NYU for sure
NYU wasn't one of the OP's posted programs
Stanford, Yale, MCW
MCW wasn't an RTM call based on what was written 9-10 rows below here << do we think yale actually did?
A few programs have. It really doesn't matter though - rank in order of which programs you want to attend.
I agree it shouldn't change ranking but I do think it's reasonable to want to know which have sent them
heard it used to be great, but there have been some turnover with faculty (many leaving to USC, which is now considered a better program by some)> they have very little info on the website<anyone have any idea when the interview day will end?
email said around 1 oh please, I just hate the lies some times. USC as a health system was recently on probation. They are not jumping from UCLA in droves to USC.
this is actually not true - several faculty have been poached from UCLA to USC (in "droves") <yes, including USC's current PD and head Mohs surgeon.
before or after probation issues? Also 2 people don't constitute 'droves'
some after, some before. probation issues had nothing to do with the derm department. there are more than those 2.
either you have a UCLA invite and not a USC invite, or you haven't spent much time with both depts...
you don't have to believe me, look up their faculty list and see for yourself
☕☕☕
um, UCLA has like 8 more faculty than USC
quality, not quantity honey
<not a top CA program <There are many solid CA programs and UCLA is included in that. I know someone who ranked UCLA over UCSF & Stanford partially for locations reasons, but they did not feel like they were sacrificing quality of education. <Great location, but still not a top program compared to every others in CA. <true
not true
Stanford & UCSF are on another level, then UCSD, then UC-davis, UCLA & USC
would consider lower tier program. Not a department (it's a division under medicine) so there is limited upside for improvements. Location is amazing though if you want to be in SoCal x4 .
Would not say low tier. Would pick it above most of the 100+ programs, but not top tier/upper
In order: Stanford/USCF, UCSD, UC-Davis, UCLA, USC, UC-Irvine, Loma Linda/UCLA-Harbor, Kaiser Permanente, Opti West (Newport)
UCLA and UC Davis are not above USC
This one line represents the horrible sabotage that is going to plague every question about california programs this season
This whole thread is ridiculous. Pick whichever CA program suits you the best. Derm reputations are mostly based on how long the program has been around and how much research money they have. Remember that matching at a "top tier derm program" may be seen as > matching to other programs, but they're >>>>>>>>> not matching. Regardless, you'll be the envy of every other non-derm doctor
Seems like the best of both worlds. Incredible program and training and as far as reputation goes, it is very high up there. Cornell is an Ivy League name which is super reputable. Is it Harvard or Stanford, no, but I'd argue it's only the next tier down as far as prestige goes
<I don't have an answer but dont forget reputation is an extrinsic measure that doesn't tell you much. It is also highly contentious as this sheet has shown over the past months. Clinics, patient population, speciality exposure, fellowship match, research can all be considered individually according to what matters to you. If rep matters though you can factor that in, but again it is super contentious, mostly research based, and seems made up half the time (aka loudest ppl on google sheet determine the accepted rep)
i guess fuck anyone who doesn't have 3 interviews lol
good point. that was insensitive
rank #3 > rank #2 still doesn't make sense though also lmfao at the predominance of respondents ranked ivies first, so there's obviously a bias here
LOL
unequal number, because people adding to it. Stanford just jumped 4 up in like 15 minutes // ha, Harvard just did it in short period too, smh
it kills me that people are having this decision haha. Like obviously really impressive, wow, that's amazing and I am not diminishing your accomplishments, but its just amazing to me the thought of choosing between 4 top 5 derm programs<<i feel very blessed and grateful indeed! and doing my best to pay it forward and be fair to decline invites I have no intention of going to << yay you kind soul - try to judge by your interview day or ask current medical students/residents - look for fit if location means nothing to you
<Harvard for baller academic/research connections and opportunities, lots of med derm, less clinically heavy; NYU tons of clinics/Bellevue which you'll get baller, academics also good, UCSF work hard af but has a bit of everything and is great; Stanford is like the most supportive of the top 5 and will likely have the most good-feeling experience ... idk I'm a PGY1 that interviewed some of these so I don't actually know anything <<thanks for your insight! what do you mean harvard is less clinically heavy? like more inpatient experience? <<there's less resident clinic autonomy, you work a lot with attendings in specialty clinic and it's less ownership of your own patients, but it's like that anyways at the top academic programs as opposed to a small community program, just heard it's more accentuated at Harvard<<interesting, so are residents mostly just presenting patients and writing notes rather than coming up with management plans? <i imagine yes since you're seeing super complex patients at a tertiary care center<dang, fair enough. thank you! << "just present and write notes instead of coming up with management plans"? Is that an actual, serious comment? You think the residents just present the patient then stand there looking blankly at the attending waiting for them to just hand them a treatment plan? If you see complex patients, you learn how to come up with complex plans
< thanks for the input! What about penn?
PGY1. Loved Penn program (didn't match there but had it ranked #1). Amazing faculty, good autonomy, everyone seemed happy. Great exposure to procedures as well (which I felt was a weakness at Harvard)
Stanford - happy residents, assume great clinical experience (although no one seems to emphasize this as much about Stanford); UCSF - one of best if not best clinical experience in the country for complex derm, work you very hard though. Others I don't know as well. Go with your gut and where you felt like the personalities of the residents were most similar to yours.
Penn is the best all-round plus the procedural skill > Harvard. Stanford would be my #2 for the supportive vibe and innovation.
UCSF and Penn are definitly the two best/most well-rounded programs in the country. All the other "top" programs have significnt weaknesses (i.e stanford and harvard have weak derm surg, etc). NYU residents seem to work the hardest and seemed to me to be the least happy.
Unfortunately its near impossible to interpret RTM calls on this spreadsheet
even when it says x2 or x3 it could be a random fake post from 1 person
Exactly
Yale might not do R2M but they are known to make it very clear that they want you so if there's been no correspondence, that's definitely a sign - also Stanford and Penn has indeed sent out calls
Yale won't get everyone they want, so don't worry if there is no correspondence from any of these programs
If a place has sent out RTM calls and you didn't get one... would it be unusual for you to still match there? x2 << not impossible, but your chances are much lower
<Not really. The applicants who are getting r2m calls at these locations are getting r2m calls from all the others that do them as well, and everyone can only go to one program.
itchin for that UCLA and Stanford, yafeelme >> is UCLA out?
I think some but not all research went out? Don't think we got regulars yet
can't wait to get the rejection emails either, i feel ya <think positively!
i literally have 1 TY and 1 derm interview lmao if either of these schools interview me i will give you $20 <(haha haha i love your sense of humor! I hope you match somewhere!)
