💬1. I mean, it looks like Stanford is solid for giving spots to their research fellows. Recently gave a spot to an IMG that did a few years of dedicated research with them. I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing? Look at USC or UCLA with 99999 research fellows and none of them get serious consideration.

How far do top programs typically have to go down the rank list? I always feel that people that got invited to harvard will get invited to penn, NYU, Stanford, UCSF, Sinai, NW, Mayo. Can they go all the way to number 30-40 on their rank list because all of the applicants end up being spread out? Unless every applicant that those programs rank to match ranks their respective programs (unlikely) number one, they should go down pretty far.

^ over stanford maybe, but why would anyone rank it over UCSF...and certainl not over Penn unless your family is in NYC and you can't be 90 minutes away and therefore want a program that is, no question, less clinically/academically strong

Just FYI on the derm tab, Stanford only has 6 spots and WVU has 2, plus an additional advanced spot; there might be other descrepancies too

Re: Stanford, in addition to the 6 spots starting in 2020, there is 1 spot starting in 2019 for someone who has already completed prelim and/or completed another specialty

I think I'll have to do a research year(s) - I heard the one at Stanford and the one at UCSF offer a good learning experience and mentorship, does anyone know though if they have a hx of matching fellows to Stanford and UCSF? Thanks!
